Emergency crews worked fire at former Shamokin hose company Sunday

Apr. 22—SHAMOKIN — Emergency crews responded to a second alarm fire at Firehouse Winery, formerly Liberty Hose Company, on Sunday.

Shamokin Fire Chief Kenny Pilkus said the call came in around 5 p.m. and emergency personnel were dispatched to the business at 211 East Sunbury St.

Pilkus said he was the first to arrive on the scene and witnessed a heavy smoke condition, which immediately became a heavy fire condition out of the garage door.

The first floor of the building was damaged severely. The fire eventually extended to the second floor and parts of the third floor, Pilkus said.

The building surrounding the winery were not damaged. The fire caused no injuries to emergency personnel or members of the public, according to the fire chief.

The Liberty Hose Company relocated in 2021 and the East Sunbury Street building was transformed into a winery and restaurant, Pilkus said.
