Emergency road closure in Manchester city centre due to 'unsafe building' as tilting wall crumbles to ground

An emergency road closure is in place in Manchester city centre due to an 'unsafe building'. Lever Street, in the Northern Quarter, has been blocked off with building control officers in attendance monitoring the situation.

The top floor of part of a building, behind the Bem Brasil restaurant, has been pictured tilting, with bricks and scaffolding falling down to the ground.

Local Authority Building Control (LABC) personnel are at the scene currently with the one way street completely blocked off as the situation is assessed.

Pictures taken on Wednesday (May 15) show what appear to be bricks and parts of scaffolding on the ground after falling from the building, behind an alley off Little Lever Street.

Lever Street remains closed from the A62 Great Ancoats Street to Houldsworth Street. The emergency closure has also meant buses that operate via Lever Street have had to be diverted.

Manchester City Council have been approached for further details on the situation.
