In images shared with Edinburgh Live show a black motorbike on the road with debris scattered across the ground, with a bus also at the scene.

Police Scotland told Edinburgh Live that the motorbike had been reported stolen earlier that day but after receiving a report of the crash at 6.40pm, the motorbike driver and the passenger had fled the scene.

The eyewitness told Edinburgh Live: "Road closed as Motorbike accident at Ferry Road from the junction of Groathill.

Lothian Buses states on its website that the 21 and 29 bus are being diverted. The bus operator writes: "Due to a road closure [the 21] buses are unable to serve Ferry Road at Wester Drylaw and are instead diverted via Groathill Road North, Telford Road, Hillhouse Road and Corbiehill Road in both directions until further notice."

The 29 services will be diverted via Pennywell Road and Muirhouse Parkway in both directions until further notice.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40pm on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024 we were called to a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Ferry Road, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended however the driver and passenger of the motorcycle had made off.
