Bangor High Street has been closed to all traffic due to a gas leak. Engineers are now onsite carrying out emergency work.

Cyngor Gwynedd said that all vehicles are prohibited from the street - which is pedestrianised for most the day. Pedestrians can still use the high street but were advised to follow safety signage.

It is hoped the street will reopen on Friday. The road is the longest high street in Wales.

A spokesperson for Cyngor Gwynedd said: "Bangor High Street is closed to all traffic due to a gas leak. Engineers are on site carrying out emergency work and it is hoped the street will reopen tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

"The street is open to pedestrians and please follow all safety signs put up in the area. Because of these unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately Bangor Market will not be held tomorrow."
