Emily Blunt says Dame Judi Dench 'put the kibosh' on her pop career

Emily Blunt has revealed she dreamed of being a pop star – until Dame Judi Dench talked her out of it.

The Quiet Place actress dabbled in music early in her career but said when she asked Dame Judi for advice, the actress advised her not to try and do both.

Blunt joked on chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live that she “could have been Britney” if she had pursued singing.

She said: “I was doing a play ... my first job was with Judi Dench - yeah, the Dame - which was incredible and she was wonderful to me.

“And I went to her for advice because I was really, really nervous about this career that I didn't know was right for me.

"I didn't think was right for me and she said, 'Oh no, darling. You can't do both. You can't act and do that.'

“She talked me out of it."

“She put the kibosh on it,” she added.

The actress, 37, said she even recorded some songs back in the day.

"I could have been Britney,” quipped the London-born star.

However, Blunt admitted that there was an obstacle in the way of her fantasies of pop stardom – the dancing.

Although she tried to learn some moves, she confessed: “It didn’t work.”

Blunt, who is known for films such as Edge Of Tomorrow and The Devil Wears Prada, is married to US actor John Krasinski and the couple have two young daughters together.
