Emily in Paris actress Ashley Park reveals sepsis left her in intensive care after Thailand holiday

Actress Ashley Park has revealed she developed sepsis on a Christmas holiday in Thailand and has posted a picture of herself in hospital.

The 32-year-old, who plays Mindy Chen in Emily in Paris, wrote on Instagram that she has been in “excruciating pain” during her ordeal in which she has been in intensive care.

"What started as tonsillitis spiralled into critical septic shock,” she wrote, “[This] infected and affected several of my organs.

“As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is grateful.

“I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told.”

The post also revealed for the first time that she is dating actor Paul Forman, her co-star in the Netflix series.

Park continued: “[I am] grateful most of all to @peforman for being unconditionally by my side through all this.

“You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know.

“I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”

Forman responded with a post reading “my love” as well as a picture of them together.

As well as a picture of Forman kissing her head was a video of her using an oxygen machine as he held back her hair.

She added: “I hesitated to share what’s been happening as I’m still in the throes of recovery…but I now know I’m safely on the other side of the worst.

“Thanks for reading this. I’m sorry for being so absent recently to so much and to people in my life. I love you all. I’m healing and I promise I’m gonna be okay.”

French-British actor Forman plays Nicolas de Léon in the series and acts as the love interest to Park’s character Mindy - meaning the two are attached on screen and in real life.

Lily Collins, who plays the title character in Emily in Paris, wrote: “I can hardly look at these without crying.

"I love you sister and I’m forever grateful you’re on the other side of this and for @peforman for your incredibly huge heart and for being there every step of the way. I cannot wait to hug you both.”
