‘Emily in Paris’ star Ashley Park in recovery after hospitalization for critical septic shock
“Emily in Paris” star Ashley Park revealed on Friday she had been hospitalized while on vacation over the holidays, dealing with a case of tonsillitis that developed into “critical septic shock.”
“As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is grateful,” Park captioned of a series of Instagram photos, which show her lying in a hospital bed with tubes coming out of her nose.
The 32-year-old actress, who recently had a pivotal role in Emmy-winning Netflix series “Beef,” went on to explain that she caught tonsillitis around New Years — and what should have been a fairly routine ailment quickly spiraled to infect several of her organs.
Those infections reportedly led to serious septic shock. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs when “the body responds improperly to an infection,” and carries a mortality rate of around 30% to 40%.
Now in recovery, Park added that her “health has improved despite what we had initially been told,” and gave a special thank you to her “Emily in Paris” co-star and rumored boyfriend, Paul Forman, who she said was “unconditionally by my side.”
“You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know. I love you Paul. More than I can ever say,” she shared.
She also gave a shout-out to the doctors and nurses who treated her, in addition to the team at the wellness resort in the Maldives where they had been staying, who she says offered help with language translations during the emergency.
Park did not explain how she initially became sick but said, “I’m healing and I promise I’m gonna be okay.”
