Emma Bunton Reveals It Took Her A While To Forgive Geri Halliwell For Leaving The Spice Girls

Emma Bunton has revealed that it took her a long time to forgive Geri Horner (nee Halliwell) after she decided to walk away from the Spice Girls in 1998.

Ah, we remember that fateful day like it was yesterday (and all the tears, tantrums and comfort eating that came with it).

It’s no surprise that Geri’s bandmates - Emma, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria Beckham - were also gutted by her departure, with Baby Spice particularly affected.

Opening up about how tough she found the situation, Emma told Grazia: “I was so close to Geri – she was like my older sister.

“I didn’t think anything other than, ‘Oh, I’m going to miss my friend who looks after me!’ It took me a while to forgive her. We probably didn’t speak for about a year’.”

Emma also recalled the girls’ celebrity lifestyle, saying they ‘always really appreciated it’ and that doing all the A-List things ‘never became normal’.

The iconic five-piece had one particularly legendary fan too, with Baby Spice explaining: “Prince came to a show and then came backstage and said, ‘I’ve just watched your show, you sang live, I’m so proud of you!’”

Her youngest son, Tate, is ‘absolutely obsessed’ with the Spice Girls, though he’s decided Geri is his favourite, rather than his mum.

Cute.
