Emma Corrin & Lucie Zhang To Star As Best Friends Who Scam Sugar Daddies In Hong Kong-Set Comedy ‘Peaches’; Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films Produces & MK2 Handles Sales

EXCLUSIVE: Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Cesar nominee Lucie Zhang (Paris, 13th District) are set to star in Jenny Suen’s English language feature debut Peaches, which Coco Francini (Fingernails) will produce and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton will executive-produce for Dirty Films.

Set in contemporary Hong Kong, the movie will follow two spoiled best friends who scam sugar daddies for a living. When they discover a Hermes Birkin bag they were gifted is a fake, their “boyfriends” and crimes catch up with them.

The film is an adaptation of Vera Chitylova’s 1966 Czech New Wave comedy Daisies.

Paris-based MK2 Films, whose slate includes Cannes Palme d’Or winner Anatomy of a Fall and Cannes Un Certain Regard winner How to Have Sex, is handling international sales and discussed the project with buyers at last week’s AFM. The film will start production early next year in Hong Kong.

Suen made her debut on 2017 drama The White Girl, which she wrote and co-directed with revered DoP Christopher Doyle.

Dirty Films’ Coco Francini told us: “Jenny Suen’s Peaches is an uproarious ode to youth and freedom with a dash of Hong Kong slapstick. Emma Corrin and Lucie Zhang are two of the most exciting talents of their generation and they are the perfect actors to capture the distinct rhythms and surreal escapades of this very special film.”

Director Suen added: “Peaches is a playful exploration of what it means to be a young person in today’s calamitous world. Why live your life seriously if it feels like you have no future? Emma Corrin and Lucie Zhang are astonishing performers with both the verve and the vulnerability to bring the Peach spirit to life! I am beyond excited to start shooting with Emma and Lucie, and ever grateful for my collaboration with Coco Francini, Cate Blanchett, and Andrew Upton at Dirty Films.”

The Crown breakout Corrin will next be seen in FX’s limited series A Murder At The End Of The World, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and in the villain role in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3, alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

French-Chinese actress Lucie Zhang broke out in Jacques Audiard’s Cannes drama Paris, 13th District and since then has starred in movies including Thomas Lilti’s A Real Job, alongside Adèle Exarchopoulos, and upcoming Arnaud Despallieres feature Party of Fools.

Cate Blanchett, Andrew Upton and Coco Francini’s Dirty Films most recently produced Christos Nikou’s Fingernails, starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed and Jeremy Allen White. This year, they executive-produced Noora Niasari’s Shayda, which won the Audience Award at Sundance and is Australia’s Best International Film Oscar entry, and produced Warwick Thornton’s The New Boy, which premiered at Cannes. Upcoming projects include The Champions with director Ben Stiller and an adaptation of Lucia Berlin’s A Manual for Cleaning Women.
