Emma Watson returned to social media after nine months away to address speculation about her acting career and personal life.

The 31-year-old posted to Twitter on Monday night for the first time since August, seemingly dismissing that she was turning her back on acting as had been previously reported.

She also appeared to rubbish suggestions she was engaged to partner Leo Robinton.

Addressing her supporters, the Harry Potter star wrote: “Dear Fans, Rumours about whether I’m engaged or not, or whether my career is ‘dormant or not’ are ways to create clicks each time they are revealed to be true or untrue.

“If I have news – I promise I’ll share it with you.

“In the mean time please assume no news from me just means I’m quietly spending the pandemic the way most people are – failing to make sourdough bread (!), caring for my loved ones and doing my best not to spread a virus that is still affecting so many people.”

She added: “I am sending so much love to you, hoping you’re ok and as well and happy as you can be in these strange times. And again, thank you to everyone working so hard to keep us safe and well. E Xx.”

Watson is said to have been dating businessman Robinton since 2019.

It was reported earlier in the year that Watson had gone "dormant", however, her manager Jason Weinberg clarified: "Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t.”

Last year the Little Women actor joined the board of directors of Gucci owner Kering. She said at the time that her new position could result in a "new quietness" from her.

She told Vogue: “If people notice a new quietness from me, it does not mean I am no longer there or do not care! I will just be doing my work in a different way (fewer red carpets and more conference meetings!)."
