Emmerdale airs David Metcalfe's exit scenes after final row with Jacob

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has aired David Metcalfe's exit scenes following a final row with Jacob Gallagher.

Thursday's (November 30) episode was a melancholy goodbye for the long-running character, after he discovered his ex-girlfriend Victoria Sugden was now romantically involved with his son Jacob.

David was doubly blindsided by the news that his own father Eric Pollard had been hiding his recent Parkinson's Disease diagnosis too.

The tension exploded in Thursday's episode when Jacob and Victoria tried to tell him they were ending their relationship.

"What's this then? Operation: Manage David," he quipped.

While the now-former couple tried to smooth things over, Jacob stood up for himself as David laughed off the idea that he could actually be in love with Victoria.

David viciously called Victoria a "thoughtless slapper", causing Jacob to lash out in her defence by punching his father in the face.

After kicking the pair out of his house, David decided he was going to move to London full-time so he could focus on daughter Amba. However, he had one last confrontation with Jacob where he warned his son their relationship could never be the same.

"Maybe you shouldn't call me [dad] anymore," he told a tearful Jacob.

David then hung up his shop apron one last time, before saying his goodbyes to Eric, Brenda and Leyla.

"I'm not one for big goodbyes, but it does feel like the end of an era," he told them.

When cast member Matthew Wolfenden's Emmerdale departure was announced a few months ago, he said it felt like "the right time" to say goodbye to David.

"The door's left open, they're not killing me off, I've been promised," he told This Morning. "I'm allowed to tell you that. So who knows, I might be back, we will see."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
