Soap star Hayley Tamaddon has shared her joy at expecting her first baby at the age of 42.

The actress, known for her roles as Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street and Del Dingle in Emmerdale, told fans her happy news and admitted she thought she would never have children.

A clearly delighted Tamaddon tweeted her pregnancy announcement with a photo of her growing baby bump.

She wrote: “EXCITING NEWS TWEET!! I’m so pleased to tell you all…

“I’m expecting my first child with my wonderful boyfriend Adrian!!

“I’ve always wanted to be a mum and didn’t think I could have children. And now, at the ripe old age of 42 – I’M PREGNANT! We couldn’t be happier.”

TV stars quick to offer their congratulations included Bonnie Langford, James Jordan, Corrie actors Patti Clare, Jennie McAlpine, Julia Goulding and Georgia Taylor, and Emmerdale’s Michelle Hardwick.

Before Tamaddon got together with boyfriend Adrian, she was in a relationship with comedian Marcus Brigstocke.

She also called off an engagement in 2010 when she discovered that fiance Darren Charles had been cheating on her while she had been competing in Dancing on Ice, which she went on to win with childhood friend Dan Whiston.

Talking to The Mirror five years ago when she was 37, Tamaddon said: “My body feels 37 but I still feel 21. I sometimes forget that I’m going to be 40. It would be lovely to have kids in the future but for now my main concentration is my work.

“I’m not scared of nappies or screaming babies but I’m just not at that point.

“Not many of my friends have settled down either. I’m a workaholic. It’s always work, work, work, I can’t switch it off.”

Congratulations are also in order for some of Tamaddon’s former castmates – Corrie actress Brooke Vincent recently announced she was expecting her first child, too, while another of the soap’s stars, Kym Marsh, is set to become a grandma at the age of 42.

Tamaddon is currently appearing in West End show Everyone’s Talking About Jamie.
