Emmerdale fans have shared emotional responses after Ash Palmisciano shared an update ahead of tonight's episode.

The Matty Barton star posted a number of photos on Instagram as he teased viewers about what is to come in this week's second instalment of the long-running ITV soap. Ash is currently at the centre of a dramatic storyline as his character was framed for stabbing Samson Dingle.

In an episode that aired last month, Samson arrived at HOP with his friend Josh, who quickly began flirting with an uninterested Amy Barton. Matty, Amy's husband, then told Josh to leave the premises.

An altercation ensued, with Josh shoving Samson into Matty, causing him to be stabbed by the knife in Matty's hand. Josh lied and said he'd stabbed him on purpose, leading to Matty's arrest.

As Matty wrongly sits in a prison cell, Ash shared some photos from behind the scenes.

He posed behind bars alongside fellow inmates Robbo and Les, played by John O'Neill and Stacey Gough. Ash said: "It’s all about to kick off! Tune in tonight at 7.30! @emmerdale @goughstacey @jk0_91 [applause emojis] amazing performances from these two xx".

Fans have shared their feelings in the comments section, as Shelly said: "Matty hope you get out of there soon. It's a hard watch now".

Louise said: "Crying at this storyline, hope it ends soon" and Debbie said: "Almost crying now. I know these guys will be brilliant but it still makes a hard watch. I will watch with tissues at hand".

Uma said: "Such a powerful story and so emotional as a fellow transgender person".
