Emmerdale fans were left stunned as Matty Barton was arrested for stabbing Samson Dingle in shocking scenes. But they were left saying 'surely' when they recalled a clue that could lead to the character being found innocent of any intent to hurt Samson.

During the latest episode of the ITV soap on Thursday night (June 6), viewers saw Samson and his mate Josh at The Hide. It's become clear in recent episodes that Josh had taken a shine to Amy Wyatt and continually flirted with her, despite admitting she's a married woman.

Josh was introduced to Matty but unbenown to anyone else, he later branded Matty a 'freak' after discovering he'd transitioned from a woman. As he continued openly flirting with Amy, Samson was clearly uncomfortable at the exchange and tried to get his new pal to give it a rest.

However, once Amy had gone, Josh turned to Matty and continued to jibe him before he eventually had had enough. Pouring their paid-for beers away, Matty told them both to leave, which infuriated Josh. While outside, Josh made it clear the situation wasn’t over, as he told Samson they were owed their drinks.

Storming back inside, Matty tried to tell them both he had shut the cafe, although Josh was adamant they weren’t leaving without getting their drinks. As Josh started making awful remarks about Matty being transgender, and Samson joined in the aggrovation, he warned them to leave before he called the police.

Josh started referring to Matty as “she” and as he tried to carry on with closing up, picking up a chopping board and a knife, Josh's anger escalted and he pushed Samson into Matty, pushing him straight into the knife leaving him staggering backwards while bleeding profusely.

Hide boss Jai Sharma was horrified when he returned and walked into the scene as Josh quickly called the ambulance. He was quick to assert blame with Matty stunned at what had happened and insisted it was an accident. Soon after, Samson was taken to hospital in an ambulance while Amy and Moira Dingle watched on as Matty was cuffed and ushered into a police car.

But Emmerdale fans are hoping CCTV will be in existance in the venue that can help Matty's case. @linda12rose said: "Surely there’s CCTV!" @carmel5050 replied: "You’d like to think so." @mspetitelady remarked: "I was thinking exactly the same thing."

@suecanlin pointed out: "I’m sure they had internal and external CCTV when Ben was killed there by Meena as it was part of the storyline." @bainbridge_leah echoed: "They have cctv because didn’t meena take the footage when she killed someone from inside there?" But @charlottejadelouisejoyce didn't hold out much hope for the CCTV saying: "Most likely be broken or not working."
