'Emmerdale' New Year spoilers: Cain leaves Ellis for dead, plus Vanessa argues with both Charity and Nate
It’s a new year on Emmerdale but there’s little sign of anyone making a resolution to turn over a new leaf. Cain is once again seeking vengeance, while village returnee Vanessa is arguing with Charity.
Read on for more on this and the rest of the spoilers for 1-7 January 2022.
Cain leaves Ellis for dead
Cain is now barely able to keep a lid on his rage as he frets about Kyle and ends up ordering Marlon to evict Ellis from Tall Trees.
With a war between the Dingles and the Chapmans now breaking out, Nate and Moira have deep concerns about what Cain might now have planned for Ellis.
And they’re right to be nervous as Cain will end up taking Ellis out to the moors and abandoning him in the middle of nowhere as retribution for putting Kyle in hospital.

With his whereabouts unknown, Al and Billy will then be seen worrying about what’s happened to Ellis, little realising that he’s now out on the moors, freezing and curled up on the floor with bloodied, bare feet.
Pretty soon, Al gets suspicious of Cain and accuses him of harming his son. But after Cain denies any involvement, Al turns his attention to Kyle and starts making implicit threats about what might happen to him should Cain continue with his risky game.
News of Dawn and Billy’s engagement breaks
Young Lucas discovers all about mum Dawn’s engagement, so she and Billy decide to announce the news to their families.
Will can’t help but worry that his daughter has been too hasty in getting engaged. But Dawn reassures her dad by telling him that she loves Billy and that he makes her feel safe.
But viewers will no doubt worry that Billy won’t be able to protect Dawn from murderous Meena.
Cheating Nate is confronted by Vanessa
Following recent revelations, Nate finds himself unwelcome wherever he turns. First, Cain is angered when Nate reveals that Tracy kicked him out for cheating and refuses to let him stay with him.
Fast running out of options, Nate then heads back to Tug Ghyll and tries to pick up his belongings and visit his daughter. But he’s met with opposition in the form of an incensed Vanessa, who turns Nate away.
Later on, Tracy expresses her hurt that Nate hasn’t tried to see Frankie, and Vanessa uneasily hides the fact that he called round the previous day.
However, Vanessa is set to be left shame faced when a gobsmacked Tracy overhears her telling Charity that she prevented Nate from gaining entry. Will Tracy react with anger when she learns the full facts?
Charity and Vanessa argue
There’s mixed news for #Vanity fans hoping that their favourite couple will reunite. On the plus side, Vanessa will be seen announcing that she’s now staying in the village for good.
But it isn’t long before Vanessa is arguing with Charity when the latter asks to spend more time with Johnny. Will they be able to reach some kind of agreement?
