Emmerdale pays tribute to Meg Johnson after death

Emmerdale has paid tribute to Meg Johnson after the actress passed away at the age of 86.

The actress, who played Pearl Ladderbanks for 17 years on the ITV soap, passed away yesterday (July 1) evening, with a family statement saying she had suffered from dementia for the last few years.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that actress Meg Johnson passed away peacefully yesterday evening surrounded by her family," they shared in a Twitter post. "Meg was a kind and wonderful lady, full of warmth and always with a twinkle in her eye. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her."

Danny Miller, who played Aaron Dingle on the soap, also had fond words for the actress, writing: "Truly devastated to hear this. Pearl was a fair way to describe our lovely Meg. The creator of 'pigs bum!!' should she ever forget her lines, and a loved soul throughout the building. Shared many laughs with her and Dominic [Brunt] on set. Rest well Meg!"

Samantha Giles, who plays Bernice Blackstock, also shared the same memory, writing: "So sad to learn of lovely Meg Johnson's passing, who played the glamourous Pearl in Emmerdale. She was such fun and I particularly remember her famous saying when she got her lines wrong: 'oh pig's bum' . You will be missed [broken heart emoji]."

Meanwhile, Mandy Dingle star Lisa Riley shared: "You taught me so much, discipline, respect, comedy and how not to take life too seriously. You are the true meaning of the words WONDERFUL WOMAN. Your energy lives on, because you were so very special."
