Emmerdale viewers have been left frustrated after Belle had the opportunity to tell the truth about Tom but jumped to his defence instead.

As Emmerdale viewers will know, Tom King has been controlling and abusing Belle Dingle since the start of their marriage. In tonight’s episode Charity Dingle tried to tear Belle away from Tom for a day with the Dingle women after she started having suspicions about his behaviour in Friday’s episode.

Charity, Mandy and Chas Dingle all stormed into Belle and Tom’s home in order to get Belle out for the day, in the hopes that she would confess about what’s really being going on behind closed doors.

Charity covered all bases and even brought in reinforcements in the form of Jimmy King and Paddy to keep Tom company. When Charity asked Tom if taking Belle to The Woolpack for the day would be ok, he told her that “Belle didn’t need permission from him to leave the house” - something which viewers will know is very far from the truth.

During their girly day, Charity began questioning Bell about why she didn’t tell them about the miscarriage, saying that it was out of character. She also tried to encourage her to take a break from Tom.

Meanwhile, Paddy and Jimmy warned Tom that Belle would be “dissecting” him to the other Dingle women, “as females do when they meet up”. Tom rang Belle to “ask her what was going on,” and said that he was “missing her”, and Belle agreed. This led Charity to accuse Tom of keeping tabs on Belle, and she pressed her further for the truth.

Belle remained tight lipped but Charity remained relentless in her pursuit for the truth. Belle told her to “back off”, and accused Charity of “slagging off” her husband, despite him being nothing but nice about her. Belle continued to defend Tom and deny that anything bad had been happening at home. She said that she loved Tom, and that he was the “best thing that ever happened to her”.

Viewers of the ITV show were left frustrated that Belle missed out on her one opportunity to tell the truth and get away from her abusive husband - with some fearing that she may end up dead.
