Emmerdale viewers 'in tears' over 'heartbreaking' suicide storyline

Fans of the ITV soap have praised actor Dominic Brunt for his performance

Emmerdale viewers have said they were in tears over the latest instalment of the soap's suicide storyline.

Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) has sunk into depression since the breakdown of his marriage to Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and their grief over losing daughter Grace.

He has been contemplating taking his own life and in the most recent episode viewers saw him secretly saying goodbye to his family and friends.

While he didn't explain what he was planning, Paddy told people like his daughter Eve how much he loved them and said he had to go away somewhere.

Viewers were moved by the emotional scenes and many said they were in tears.

"I’m a 46 year old male and was in tears at tonight’s on @emmerdale with Paddy’s @dominicbrunt storyline," one tweeted.

"I hope all ends well for Paddy and gets help."

"In tears @emmerdale @dominicbrunt has carried out this role with perfection," said another.

One tweeted: "Paddy is that good I’ve had to turn Emmerdale off. Broke my heart."

Another viewer said her husband suffered from depression and that "he sat nodding and there were tears running down his face".

"Well done to ALL at Emmerdale again for being real," they added.

"Absolutely heartbreaking and very often happens," said another.

"I hope there's a happy ending for Paddy. It's so important to make time to talk and really listen x."

As part of the storyline, the ITV soap will make history with its first ever all-male episode.
