Emmerdale has revealed the frightening first details of Aaron Dingle's prison ordeal.

Aaron is about to be sentenced to one year in jail as punishment for his recent brutal attack on Kasim Sabet - and life behind bars certainly won't be easy for him.

The first sign of trouble comes when Aaron receives a visit from Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and they're forced to hide the true nature of their relationship.

Aaron (Danny Miller) is keen to avoid any homophobia from the other inmates, but when their strong feelings flare up in the visiting room and there's an intimate moment between them, the big question is whether it'll be spotted by anyone.

Later in the week, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) also visits her son and makes a scene when she threatens Aaron's troublesome jailmate Jason - and it really doesn't take a genius to figure out that her interference may cause much more harm than good.

Aaron's prison ordeal then gets even worse when the top dog behind bars discovers that he's the son of evil child abuser Gordon, who took his own life at the same jail last year.

As things become more dangerous for Aaron as a result, how will he cope? Will he seek help from his family or not?

Emmerdale's producer Iain MacLeod recently commented: "The story becomes: 'Can Aaron escape his past and can he get over his past? What impact does the struggle he has inside have on his family on the outside? And what degree does he feel able to be honest with them about what he's going through?'

"Robert, Liv and everyone else are worried sick about him. But however bad it gets in there, is it the right thing for Aaron to share it with them? It's only going to make it worse for them in terms of their level of anxiety.

"So it's big, complicated, interesting and feels very much of our time. With every news report that comes out, I feel more and more pleased that we've been able to do something in this area."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
