Emmerdale's Charlotte Bellamy describes hospital dash with fake baby bump after on-set accident

Emmerdale actress Charlotte Bellamy, who plays Laurel Thomas in the ITV soap, revealed to Lorraine Kelly that she was rushed to A&E following an on-set accident. During a scene where her character was "making a bolognaise" with a "blunt knife" the blade slipped leading to a severe injury.

Charlotte recounted how she had cut "the top of her finger off" and was hurriedly taken to medical professionals while still wearing a prosthetic pregnancy belly. Her character Laurel was pregnant at the time, which led to some confusion at the hospital when doctors initially believed her faux pregnancy was real.

During her visit to the hospital Charlotte remembered having to clarify the unusual circumstances after medical staff expressed concern for her unborn child who, of course, wasn't real. TV presenter Lorraine asked the soap star: "Did you not end up in A&E? Tell me what happened with that? You had a bump?" "This is something that happened on set years ago," Charlotte explained before adding: "During filming I was making a bolognaise, as you do, with a very blunt knife and I'm chopping and on the take I chop the top of my finger off."

She added: "At the time I was pretend pregnant as Laurel so I had to get rushed into A&E with the prop man and with my pretend bump. They were so confused and they were more worried about my baby but obviously my baby wasn't real and nor was my husband," reports the Mirror.

Lorraine couldn't help but laugh as she recounted the bizarre incident, saying: "And then you have to go: 'That's not my husband and the baby isn't real but I have actually chopped the top of my finger off with a knife while making bolognaise for a show'... And they go: 'Ahh okay'. It's bonkers isn't it?"

In conversation with the Scottish presenter Charlotte disclosed that her character Laurel in the soap is due to collapse in the episode airing on Tuesday, July 3. ITV has already teased upcoming drama in their official soap spoilers revealing that Laurel will be caught in a terrifying situation when her partner Jai Sharma, portrayed by Chris Bisson, struggles to come clean to his half-brother Suni Sharma.

The tension escalates into a fierce argument where Jai oversteps the mark by bringing up Laurel's deceased husband Ashley. Following their clash Laurel is seen collapsing and appears unable to answer her persistently-ringing phone to call for assistance. For the latest TV and showbiz news sign up to our newsletter.
