Emmerdale's James Hooton supported by co-stars following his dad's death

Emmerdale star James Hooton has shared heartbreaking news of his dad’s death.

James Hooton, 50, who plays Sam Dingle in Emmerdale, has taken to Instagram to give the sad announcement. He posted a photo of his father with a heartfelt message.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to report the passing of my dad, Kenneth Hooton, on April 16, a week before what would have been his 82nd birthday,” James said. “This is the last photo I took with my dad, on February 16. He had been in hospital through Christmas and had recently been moved to a new care home in Sutton in Ashfield.”

The Emmerdale actor added: “He had Alzheimer’s Disease and vascular dementia but still recognised me and other family members and friends, right until the end. He lived a life full to the brim with experiences and had no regrets.

“The last time I saw him was a few-weeks-ago, along with his old friend Martin, my dad said, ‘I’m in the done it club now’. RIP Dad.”

James has received messages from some of his Emmerdale co-stars. Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle, said: “So much love and strength.” Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy Metcalfe, added: “Sending love, Jim.”
