Emmerdale's Jimmy plots a shock cover-up over Heath Hope's death

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Jimmy King has plotted a shocking cover-up over Heath Hope's death in Emmerdale.

His teenage daughter Angelica confessed to mum Nicola last week that she was the one driving when her love interest Heath Hope was killed in the New Year's Day crash.

In spite of Angel's private admission, Cathy Hope's own father Bob still wrongly believes Cathy was the one driving the night her brother was tragically killed.

Jimmy and Nicola were shocked in Monday's (January 22) episode as a desperate Angel begged them to tell her if the police would be "kind" to her if she confessed.

Jimmy then stunned his wife and daughter by suggesting Cathy was still to blame for the crash since she initially stole Wendy's car to go joyriding.

"Who allowed a 14-year-old child to take the wheel? Cathy! She's responsible, 100%," Jimmy desperately told his family.

Nicola grew increasingly uncomfortable as Jimmy verified with his daughter that nobody else knew she was driving, apart from Cathy.

Jimmy tried to get Angel to rehearse a false story where she'd supposedly grabbed the wheel once Cathy lost control of the car, but Nicola reminded him he was condemning an innocent girl (Cathy) to incarceration.

Nicola insisted they'd help their daughter most by telling the truth, though Jimmy warned her that Angel wouldn't survive time in prison.

"Our children mean everything to us, that's what we've always agreed. We will do anything to protect them from harm," Jimmy snapped.

Over at the cafe, Bob managed to anger Cathy again by encouraging her to be patient with the police investigation until the forensics tests could be completed.

"It shouldn't take test results for you to stand by your own daughter," a grief-stricken Cathy shot back at him.
