Carers are an essential groups of people in our society that often do not get thanked enough.

A local company wanted to change that by saying a big thank you to its staff who go above and beyond.

Caring Plus Healthcare Services has celebrated Oxfordshire carers at a recent function at the Marriott Hotel in Abingdon to thank them for all the work they do.

A spokesperson said the event had aimed to "celebrate and recognise the amazing, hard work all of our domiciliary carers do one a daily basis - caring for clients in their own homes in an environment they feel safe in".

Carers in the team said the job was all about helping clients - even if that only meant make a slight different in their day.

By way of example, the carers talked about some of the progress they had been able to create with clients who have been kept anonymous for their privacy.

One said: "When I started to care for this client, they were in a bad state, they had lost weight, were very unhealthy, living in a muddled environment.

"I cleaned up their home and gave it a breath of fresh air, arranged a dietitian for them and now they are happy and healthy, living in a clean, organised environment."

Another carer on the team explained that their client had initially been bedbound when they first started caring for her.

The carer said: "She was receiving double handed care and needed a hoist following an operation.

"Our client did not want to get out of her bed.

"Myself and other carers encouraged her to start standing, taking little steps and finally taking a shower.

"The change in this client was amazing, mentally and physically, nine months later, she has purchased a car and is now independent and glowing with happiness."

For others it is about being there for the long run and giving a client the support they needed.

Another carer said: "When I first met this client they were anxious and self harming, living in an unclean home.

"I encouraged and cared for this client, taking it visit by visit.

"To see her now, she has grown in confidence and her home is now clean.

"This client still suffers with mental health but is supported."
