An empty fabric shop could be turned into a café.

The retail unit in South Farm Road, Offington, Worthing, has been empty since the start of the year.

However there are new plans for a licenced café to open at the site seven days a week.

This would be run by two full-time employees and two part-time employees.

Inside, the café would have a long serving bar and two long rows of tables by either window looking out onto the street.

The proposed opening times are from 8am until 10pm every day.

A representative from Sussex Police commenting on the plans said: "Given the close proximity of residential housing – I would ask that consideration is given to reasonable hours of trading in order to protect the amenity of the surrounding residential community.

"I would also ask that if planning permission is granted that the applicant ensures that a large degree of sensitivity shown to the local community by ensuring that patrons leave the premises quietly at the close of business."

Finola Brady Architectural Services, on behalf of the applicant Mr Laurence  Dumbleton, submitted the plans on June 20.

The council will decide whether to grant permission for the café by August 19.
