England's James Maddison weeps over Keaton Slater hit-and-run tragedy

England footballer James Maddison said he wept over the death of a schoolboy killed in a hit-and-run crash in his home city. The Premier League star expressed his condolences to the family of 12-year-old Keaton Slater, who was hit by a BMW in Coventry last Friday, June 14.

The Spurs player began his career with Coventry City and attended Caludon Castle School. He posted on X: "Tear in my eye reading about this young man's death in my home city of Coventry. Keaton's family, I am so sorry for your loss.

"If there is anything I can do to help please reach out whenever you feel. Sending my love to all of Keaton's family and friends. Rest easy young man", reports Coventry Live.

West Midlands Police has named a suspect wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving as Dolars Aleksanders, 21. Supt Paul Joyce said: "Anybody knowingly harbouring somebody for an offence such as this will be committing offences themselves and therefore I cannot stress enough the gravity of the importance around doing that.

"It is the most tragic set of circumstances you could imagine. We are currently supporting the family with specially-trained officers, there is a huge investigation team that is set up in order to find those who are responsible and we cannot thank the public enough so far for their co-operation with regards to trying to locate those responsible."

The crash happened in Radford Road at around 4.30pm. Maddison joined a community mourning Keaton. Coventry City FC shared their condolences and announced plans to honour Keaton, who supported the club. They said: "Coventry City are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of young supporter Keaton Slater.

"Keaton was a huge Coventry City supporter, and the thoughts and condolences of everyone at Coventry City Football Club and the entire Sky Blue community are with Keaton's family and friends at this awful time for them.

"The Sky Blues will liaise with Keaton's family to support them, and to help them to remember and to pay tribute to Keaton."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police also said: "If you have seen Aleksanders, or know where he is, please do not approach him but call 999 immediately, quoting log 3407 of June 14."
