Planning a staycation this summer could be the smartest decision if the recent good weather is anything to go by. And thanks to the vibrant Essex tourist scene, there are loads of places to take your family which can offer a unique, relaxing break.

Take Mersea Island Holiday Park - not only is it centrally located and easy to get to. The fully-kitted out camping and caravanning haven also boasts beachfront views and an indoor swimming pool.

According to PitchUp website, the holiday park has "expansive sea views, direct access to a private sandy beach on the Blackwater Estuary and heaps of on-site facilities".

The dog-friendly site is also kitted out with an indoor swimming pool which even has a large area with deckchairs, plus floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass roof. Sounds like just the thing if the weather lets you down.

PitchUp said: "The kids will probably spend most of their time in the pool, but should you be able to drag them away from the water, there is an outdoor adventure playground with swings and climbing structures, not to mention a humongous grassy area where the entire family can kick a ball around or have a game of cricket. Adults are not left behind, either, as they gather for drinks or a game of pool at the Muddy Duck Clubhouse.

"This is also the spot to grab a bite to eat – whether a pizza or a burger – and to catch the evening entertainment, which includes bingo and live music, as well as outdoor cinema nights from late July to the end of August. There’s a food shop on site, and more supermarkets (plus restaurants) in West Mersea (10 minutes’ drive)."

Prices start from £24 for 1 night for up to six adults - see PitchUp for more details.
