The Essex General Election counts we'll be live from - and how to keep up to date overnight

It's a big week for the country, and that also means a big week for Essex. This summer's General Election result will be declared on Friday - and we'll be live throughout the night to keep you up to date on everything happening here in our county.

The campaign for this election has been a long one - parliament was prorogued on May 24 and since then candidates in Essex have been vying for residents' votes. Here at EssexLive we've been there on every step of the way profiling the candidates who want your vote, highlighting the issues from party manifestos that could impact the county and talking to residents about what they really think.

We've also had video journalists out speaking to as many voters as possible on key local issues as part of Reach's bid to capture the opinions of 5,000 people around the country.

Ahead of what is set to be a dramatic night, I wanted to sum up everything we will be doing to cover the election in Essex - and how you can be the first to know the results.

We will be running a live blog throughout the night on Thursday so if you're staying awake we'll keep you informed - and hopefully entertained too. One of our content editors Freddie Lynne will be manning the blog and feeding in everything you need to know about each corner of Essex as well as some of the national picture.

We will also have four reporters out at election counts in various leisure centres and community spaces around the county who will be reporting live with videos, interviews, and of course those all important results. Make sure to follow EssexLive and each reporter on X too as I'm sure they'll keep you updated on the snacks they've brought to keep them awake!

  • Local Democracy Reporter Matthew Critchell will be live from the Basildon and Billericay count which is the first result expected to be announced just after midnight

  • Local Democracy Reporter Piers Meyler will be live from the Harlow count which has been a bellwether seat since 1983

  • Chief reporter Ellis Whitehouse will be live from the count in Chelmsford - our county town and first city

  • Senior reporter Matt Lee will be reporting live from Clacton where Nigel Farage is standing in the hope of being elected

Election night is always a brilliant night for local journalists and here at EssexLive we've been planning our coverage for months to ensure we're giving you all the information you need. Whether you're staying awake to tune into our live blog as it happens or you're planning on catching up in the morning I can assure you we'll have all the key results and analysis to make sure you're up to date.

I hope you've enjoyed our coverage so far and it's helped inform you ahead of the vote. If you have any feedback on our election coverage please feel free to email me at katrina.chilver@reachplc.com
