Essex local elections 2024: Rochford results in full as council remains in political limbo

Voters across the Rochford district have cast their vote in the local elections and the results are in with Rochford Council remaining under no control. Counting is underway in the 107 councils in England that held elections on Thursday (May 2).

More results are due to filter in later on Friday as council officials work their way through ballot papers. All wards have declared their results in the Rochford Council areas and the council remains under no overall control.

The Council has been without an overall majority since 2023. Before then the Conservatives were in charge between 2002 and 2023. You can find out the complete breakdown of the election results, including ward-by-ward results, using our local elections 2024 widget below.

One third of seats were up for election in Rochford. The Liberal Democrats gained two wards to sit on 11, whilst the Conservatives lost two to be on 10. The rest of the council consists on Independent (9), R (8) and Greens (1).

The Tories narrowly missed out on victories in the Foulness & The Wakerings ward as well as in Hawkwell East. Conservative candidates finished second and were beaten by just 14 and 15 votes respectively. In Roche South, Labour (2nd) were just three votes behind the Conservative's winning candidate.

Residents in Thurrock, Southend, Harlow, Colchester, Castle Point, Basildon and Brentwood have all been voting too. There are also elections in Epping Forest and the county-wide election for a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

Harlow and Thurrock are two key battlegrounds in Essex, The former was visited by Labour leader Keir Starmer and his deputy Angela Rayner the day before polls opened. Thurrock, meanwhile, is a top target for Labour in a key Conservative-Labour battleground.
