Essex weather forecast for this week as sunshine and rain are both expected

Essex has been enjoying some welcome sunshine this weekend, with temperatures reaching their highest in the county so far this year. On Saturday (May 11), the county based in temperatures that reached mid-20C..However, for the rest of this week, it's looking like more of a mixed bag.

The Met Office has predicted some days of rain along with sunnier conditions in parts of Essex this week. In particular, Tuesday (May 14) will see more rainfall, with sunnier conditions expected later in the week.

Below is a summary of the forecast in all major areas of the county for the rest of the week, taken from the Met Office forecasts on May 12.

Chelmsford - Today will see more sunny weather with clear skies from 2pm and highs of 20C. Monday will be the same temperature but cloudy, with rainfall and cooler temperatures of 17C on Tuesday. Wednesday to Saturday we can see temperatures from 19C to 20C with cloudy and sunny spells.

Southend - Sunny conditions today with highs of 21C, before cooling off for the rest of the week, going down to 16C on Tuesday where there is also heavy rain forecast. Dry, cloudy conditions for the rest of the week with some sunny spells on Friday.

Colchester - A full day of sunshine today with highs of 22C with dry, cloudy conditions for the rest of the week, with moderate rain on Tuesday. Temperatures will pick up to 20C again on Friday (May 17).

Clacton - Highs of 19C today with mostly sunny weather today and tomorrow. Heavy rain and cooler temperatures of 17C on Tuesday, before remaining dry and cloudy until Saturday.

Braintree - Highs of 23C today with mostly sunshine, heading into heavy rain and 17C on Tuesday with cloudy and sunny spells for the rest of the week, with highs of 19C.

Harlow - Highs of 24C today with cloudy and sunny spells, sticking in the 20s through the week with a cooler, rainier day on Tuesday. Some sunny spells again towards the end of the week.

Brentwood - Highs of 23C today with cloudy and sunny spells, some rain on Tuesday with dry cloudy conditions for the rest of the week, with temperatures between 17C and 19C.

Grays - A full day of sunshine today with highs of 23C with rain and cooler conditions on Tuesday, with rain and sunny spells forecast for the rest of the week, with highs of 20C.

Basildon - Cloudy with sunny spells today with highs of 23C, looking a similar picture for the rest of the week with highs of 20C on Thursday. Like the rest of the county, there is some rain forecast on Tuesday.

Canvey Island - Sunny with highs of 23C today before cooling to 18-19C for the rest of the week, with rain on Tuesday and Friday, intersperced with sunny spells.
