Eurovision Song Contest screenings in Newcastle as city hosts parties for final

Now that the dust has settled on the semi finals at this year's Eurovision Song Contest, all attention is now on Saturday's grand finale and if you aren't in Malmo for the event, or planning on having mates around to yours for a party, there are a number of places in Newcastle hosting screenings on the night.

The most famous music in the world for decades, Eurovision attracts a global audience year after year and millions across the world will be tuning into watch the final on May 11. The favourites to win this year are Croatia, with their act Baby Lasagna pulling further away from his rivals as the week has gone on.

In a turn up for the books, Israel have now climbed to second in the odds, after singer Eden Golan made it through Thursday's second semi final. Other countries firmly in the reckoning for win Malmo are Ukraine, Switzerland, Italy , Ireland and Netherlands. Live coverage of the final will air on BBC One from 8pm and is expected to run until after midnight.

If you fancy joining together with other Euro fans to enjoy the event in style, a whole host of Newcastle venues are showing it on a big screen, with some FREE and some ticketed.

Motel Mexicana

One of Newcastle's newest bars, Motel Mexicana is dedicating a day to Eurovision, with two sittings of Eurovision brunch on Saturday afternoon and then a free screening on its first floor a few hours later.

Brunch package are £39 and £49 and for the screening there will be 2-for-1 cocktails until 9pm.


The city centre cabaret haunt is hosting its second Big Eurovision Party after the success of the debut event last year.

PlastiQ is on hosting duties for an unmissable night of entertainment featuring a full Eurovision Crowd Karaoke pre show, as well as drag cabaret.

Standing tickets from £10, sitting from £325.


It's free entry down on the banks of the Tyne in Gateshead, with the final shown on a huge LED screen and a cocktail bar open all night.

There will also be a variety of street food vendors and draught bars serving 15 stouts and ciders.


It's free entry on Scotswood road,. with the contest airings on TV screens around the bar, as local drag legend Ophelia Balls and Michael T Ogilvie.


Upstairs in The Yard will be playing hoist to Kitana's Eurovision party from 7pm. Free entry.

Tipsy Cow

Wendy and Ccco are on hoisting duties, with the fun getting going from 5pm. Free entry.


The Argyle Street bar is encouraging Eurovision themed fancy dress as it shows the final on screens and a giant projector on Saturday. Free entry.
