Eurovision entrant Olly Alexander has spoken out following his harrowing performance in Sweden. The UK hopeful for this year's contest, who failed to secure any public votes on Saturday night, was also targeted with backlash from fans boycotting the event due to Israel's involvement.

On Sunday afternoon, via Instagram Stories, Olly reposted an announcement from the official Eurovision account which confirmed the victory of Switzerland's Nemo. Olly added enthusiastically: "Nemo ! ! ! You did it ! ! I'm so so proud of you. It's been such an honour to be on this journey with you. You broke the code."

The climax of the Eurovision Song Contest took place on Saturday night, and despite not gaining any points from viewers, the UK managed to receive a total of 46 points from the jury panel. Olly, recognised as a member of Years and Years, exhibited impressive theatrical staging and vocal abilities with his performance of Dizzy at the Malmo Arena in Sweden representing the UK.

Unfortunately, however, his vocals and intricate dance routine scored little traction amongst European voters. Events nose-dived further when viewers noted potential sound issues during Olly's act, subsequently causing an outcry across social media sites.

Observers commented that something seemed to go amiss during his performance - adding to pre-existing criticism levelled at him during previous semi-finals, reports the Mirror. Olly's performance of 'Dizzy' at the event was met with a mix of applause and confusion, as fans praised his energetic delivery but also reported sound issues. Some audience members even wondered if there was a problem with the backing track.

The sound problems didn't go unnoticed on social media, where viewers shared their concerns about potential technical difficulties. One fan posted on Twitter: "I think Olly (United Kingdom) mic failed again like it did in rehearsal."

Another added to the conversation, asking: "Just me or was Olly's mic turned down what happened?"
