Evacuated New Mexico Residents Wake to Smoky Haze as Wildfires Grow

Smoke from the South Fork and Salt fires triggered an air quality alert for parts of southern New Mexico on June 18.

The National Weather Service issued the air quality alert on Tuesday afternoon for parts of Lincoln County, including Ruidoso, Alto, and Capitan.

This footage, filmed by X user @Designed2Think, shows evacuated residents waking to hazy morning skies in Tinnie, New Mexico.

As of Tuesday morning, the Salt fire had grown to an estimated 4,875 acres (7.6 square miles) and was zero percent contained.
