Evacuations Ordered as Windy Fire Rages in California's Sequoia National Forest

Evacuations were ordered for communities in California’s Sequoia National Forest late on September 22 as the Windy Fire began to threaten the Camp Nelson area.

The Windy Fire was an estimated 36,249 acres in size and considered six percent contained, according to firefighting authorities. The fire had threatened multiple groves of giant sequoia trees, including the Bench Tree from the Trail of 100 Giants.
