Events of the Week: ‘Leo,’ Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks and More

Here’s a look at this week’s biggest premieres, parties and openings in Los Angeles and New York, including events for Leo, Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks and a number of starry FYC screenings.

Focus Features hosted a special screening of The Holdovers in L.A. on Friday, followed by a Q&A moderated by filmmaker Taylor Hackford that featured director Alexander Payne, Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa, writer/producer David Hemingson and editor Kevin Tent. The event, held at the London West Hollywood, also featured a surprise meet up between Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright, who followed up a role in the Focus release Asteroid City with American Fiction.

The Skatepark Project Gala

The Skatepark Project held its first-ever gala on Friday, celebrating more than 20 years of impact brought by founder Tony Hawk. Jack Black served as emcee, while actor and pro skater Evan Mock received the Emerging Leader award, and original Bones Brigade teammate Rodney Mullen presented Hawk with the evening’s top honor.

Spirit of Ireland Gala

Irish Arts Center honored Stephen Colbert at its Spirit of Ireland Gala in NYC on Friday, with appearances by the Center’s longtime honorary chairs Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson.

Heroes Linked Gala

UTA Veterans Thanksgiving event

On Wednesday, formerly homeless Veterans now living in the newly opened VA Building 207 (a 60-unit community for senior Veterans on the West Los Angeles VA North Campus) celebrated their first Thanksgiving in their new homes, hosted by UTA. UTA CEO and board member Jeremy Zimmer is the chair of The Veteran’s Fund for U.S. VETS, and 50 UTA volunteers came out and served Thanksgiving dinner for Veterans on campus.
