Everton are the latest club to express an interest in former Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene, according to Sky Sports.

They claim the Toffees are keen on a £16million move for the player, who only left Villa Park last September after more than five years at Bodymoor Heath. Ipswich Town and West Ham United have also been connected with a move move for the 22-year-old, who rather improbably it was claimed had also caught the eye of Barcelona.

That goes some way to manifesting the progress Philogene made in his one season at Hull City, for whom he scored 12 goals and recorded six assists.

Had the Tigers been promoted at the end of last term – and not narrowly missed out on the play-offs – Villa would have had the right to buy him straight back for a pre-agreed fee.

However, that might not be the end of it, just as Everton’s reported interest emerges Fabrizio Romano reckons Villa also inserted a ‘matching clause’ into this deal and would therefore have the opportunity to equal any bid that’s made.

Spanish outlet Relevo claim Barca like Philogene and consider him to be their plan B if they can’t push through a deal for Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
