All three of Nottingham Forest’s penalty claims were correctly waved away, the man at the centre of the controversy believes.

Everton full-back Ashley Young escaped without conceding a spot-kick in the Toffees’ 2-0 win over Forest, despite a trio of strong claims. In the first half, he clipped Gio Reyna in the box and then blocked Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross with his hand. In the second period, he tripped the Forest winger as he ran into the box.

The Reds have responded furiously to the decisions, releasing a strong statement in reply. That response has in turn been branded “embarrassing” by pundits.

But in Young’s eyes, there’s no drama. He felt it was just a case of Forest appealing incessantly. Asked by Sky Sports which of the decisions he felt were correct, the 38-year-old said: “All of them were right. None of them were given, were they? I think they (Forest) were claiming for everything. I think the referee was spot on.”

Long-range strikes from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil settled the game and left Forest deep in relegation trouble. They sit just a point outside the relegation zone with four matches to play. Reigning champions and title challengers Manchester City are next up for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with Sheffield United, Chelsea, and Burnley to follow.
