Cristiano Ronaldo could break up to eight different records at Euro 2024 this summer. Roberto Martínez named the 39-year-old striker in the Portugal squad last month, alongside Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, before jetting off to Germany to step up preparations for the tournament.

Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota were also given call-ups as Portugal look to reclaim their title as European champions. With help from Eder against France in the final, Ronaldo led his country to glory in 2016 before surrendering the crown to Italy in 2021.

Since Roberto Mancini's side defeated England on penalties at Wembley Stadium, a lot has happened; Ronaldo left Juventus to join Manchester United, he then fell out with Erik ten Hag before parting ways with the Red Devils and taking his talents to the Middle East.

Since joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has featured 47 times in the Saudi Pro League, scoring 49 goals and providing 13 assists. Despite his incredible record, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner still hasn't got his hands on any silverware.

Not only did Al-Hilal beat Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League title by some distance, but they also completed the domestic double over their rivals in the King Cup of Champions final earlier this month. While Ronaldo will be determined to break his barren run at the Euros this summer, eight personal accolades are up for grabs, according to wettbasis.com.

Firstly, the Manchester United legend could break the record for the most assists of all time at the tournament. Karel Poborský, who enjoyed a brief stint at Old Trafford in the late 90s, managed eight for the Czech Republic over three outings – three at Euro 1996, one at Euro 2000 and four at Euro 2004.

Ronaldo has so far recorded seven assists. The Portuguese ace could also extend his record as the player with the most goals and assists at the Euros combined – which currently stands at 21.

Assuming he features in Germany, he'll increase his record for the most Euro tournaments played (and consecutive appearances) – this summer will be his sixth appearance following 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. Ronaldo could also increase his record for the most Euro matches played – he's currently in first place with 25 matches played.

The veteran striker could increase his record for the most Euro matches played as a captain – he currently leads the way with 16 – and for the most minutes played (2155). Ronaldo could increase his record for the most Euro matches won (12) and his record for the most Euro goals scored (14).

Ronaldo joined the Portugal squad on Friday. Upon his arrival, Martínez described him as a player like no other. Speaking at a press conference last week, the former Everton boss said: "There is no other player in world football who can bring what Cristiano can bring to the locker room.

"It's going to be his sixth European Championship. He is the only player to have played in five European Championships. We are talking about a unique feat in world football and this experience is important. Then we have the other players on the field and decisions to make. Cristiano is ready to help and give everything he can."

While Ronaldo seems well poised to play a key role at the Euros this summer, Paul Merson believes the talisman should be benched until the knockout stages. Speaking to Sportskeeda, the Arsenal icon said: "Portugal are an aging team but they have a lot of experience within the squad.

"There’s too much individual quality for them not to gel together as a unit, so I think they’ll fare quite well at Euro 2024. With Pepe and Ruben Dias at the back, they are defensively strong and there is a lot of guile in midfield, while they are blessed with devastating pace and goals upfront.

‘Bruno Fernandes is a top-class footballer and should play a starring role for Portugal, while Cristiano Ronaldo is still with the squad despite entering the twilight years of his career."

Merson added: "He’s still their captain and banging in the goals in Saudi Arabia, but I think they’ll see what he’s like in the camp and take a call on his selection. I would personally leave him out of the first two league games and get qualification sorted before bringing him back for the final encounter

"If he plays well, he can keep his spot and that’s the right way to go about it as it’s a massive jump for someone to come into the European championships after playing at such a lesser standard in Saudi."
