Prepare to step into the Quantum Realm!

Following the release of 2015's Ant-Man and 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp, PEOPLE's 2022 Sexiest Man Alive, Paul Rudd, reprises his role as the titular Avenger in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The project was first announced in 2019 and since then, we've gotten several details about the movie.

Not only does the sequel mark the first film of Phase Five of the MCU, but it introduces Kang the Conqueror, who is set to serve as the "next big cross-movie villain" for the MCU.

The film follows Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), along with Hope's parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), as they are transported to the Quantum Realm.

As the characters go on their adventure, they begin "interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible," according to an official synopsis from Marvel.

Rudd, Lilly, Douglass and Pfeiffer reprise their roles from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Randall Park also returns as Jimmy Woo after previously playing the FBI agent in the Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Disney+ series WandaVision.

The film also features some new stars. Kathryn Newton plays the adult version of Scott's daughter, Cassie Lang, who was previously played by Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame. Bill Murray also appears in the film as shown in the trailer.

Additionally, Jonathan Majors plays the MCU's new big bad, Kang the Conqueror. Majors previously played an alternate-timeline variant of the character, He Who Remains, on Disney+'s Loki.

In October 2022, Variety reported that The Good Place alum William Jackson Harper would be making his MCU debut in the film in a "closely guarded secret" role.

Rudd spoke about secret cameos during a January 2023 interview with Fandango. "For people that are aware, I think, we have some good ones in there," the actor said. "Some really good ones. I'm obviously not going to tell you what they are, but I think the ones that people find out about or learn about will be a 10."

The film is directed by Peyton Reed, who previously helmed the first two Ant-Man films.

The film's script was written by Jeff Loveness, who is best known for his work on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Rick and Morty. Loveness is also slated to write the script for ​​Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Is there a trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?

After showing the film's trailer to attendees at D23 in September 2022, Marvel publicly shared the official trailer on Oct. 24, 2022, which shows the first introduction of Kang the Conqueror as he tries to make a deal with Ant-Man.

Another trailer was released in January 2023, which gives an even closer look at the Quantum Realm and an epic faceoff between Kang the Conqueror and Ant-Man. It also unveils the first look at MODOK, who makes his MCU debut in the movie. Eagle-eyed fans have noted that the character seems to be a variant of Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), the villain of the first Ant-Man film.

Marvel shared the first poster for the film the same day they dropped the teaser trailer, which shows Kang holding what appears to be Ant-Man and Wasp in his hand.

How does Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set up the Multiverse Saga?

Speaking with EW, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased how the upcoming Ant-Man film will set up the future of the Multiverse Saga with Phases 5 and 6.

"In very generalized terms, as you see in Quantumania, it's about setting up the big overarching thread that will go through the next phases," he explained.

"Not every film in the Infinity Saga focused on the Infinity Stones or Thanos, and it'll be the same across 5 and 6. But we're gearing up. People will get a taste of this in a big way in Quantumania as we lead to Avengers: Secret Wars, which I'm extremely excited for."

He continued, "The storylines that weave together through Phase 5 and 6 into Secret Wars and the opportunities that the multiverse brings storytelling-wise, it's a whole new aspect to the MCU."
