"Our little boy, you know, he just doesn't stand a chance, does he? With the Star Wars connection," McGregor began, referencing that Winstead was in the 2023 television series Ahsoka. "His mom and dad are now both..."
"He's already, I mean, we just sort of had The Mandalorian on recently and he was just sort of like, 'Whoa. What is that?' " Winstead chimed in.
Noting that they showed him the series because he loves Grogu, McGregor said that they even tried to bring Laurie to meet the people who puppeteer Grogu.
"All the guys were sort of standing to the side, but making him work with their remote controls and Grogu was interacting with Laurie and he freaked out, like totally lost his s---," the dad of five recalled.
"He was terrified," Winstead added. "He didn't want to go near it because he was very little at the time, so he was like one and a half, so we were holding him up and putting him towards Grogu and he was climbing away. We're like, 'Oh my god. This was not the reaction we had hoped for.'"
Despite his initial trepidations, McGregor revealed that his son is now much more comfortable around the character.
"But then more recently we said, 'Would you like to see him on television?' He was like, 'Yeah,' so we played him I think episode 2 of Mandalorian in season 1 where he arrives and yeah, spellbound, but you could see his mind being taken by the Star Wars of it all. Not just Grogu," added McGregor.
McGregor is dad to Laurie, whom he shares with Winstead, as well as daughter Clara, 28, Esther, 22, Jamyan, 21, and Anouk, 13, who he shares with first wife Eve Mavrakis.
