Former Rangers star Scott Arfield has had his second bid to turn a vacant shop near Ibrox into a pub rejected.

The 35-year-old had submitted a second planning application in February to open a licensed premises on Copland Road - just a five-minute walk from the ground he used to play in.

He had initially been rejected in August last year after Glasgow City Council said the proposal was not "in accordance with the Development Plan" and raised concerns about the negative impact it would have on the surrounding area.

Arfield, who was released from the club in May last year after playing 144 games, submitted a second application to Glasgow City Council on February 16 with it being validated on March 7. In the documents, the re-submitted plans argue the reasons for refusal should be reconsidered.

However, council planners again knocked back the plans to turn the former Rangers shop which was most recently a bookmakers into a pub. In their decision, they cited concerns that the submission was not in line with the development plan and local guidance due to its impact on the area, location and waste storage.

Arfield is currently playing for Charlotte FC based in the US state of North Carolina after leaving the light-blues as part of former manager Michael Beale's summer revamp. With him finding the net three times in 26 appearances since joining on July 5
