Exact date first 25C heatwave of 2024 will hit as May set to be scorching

The UK is set to sizzle in the first 25C heatwave of 2024 within days, and it could get even hotter.

The exact date for the first 25C heatwave of 2024 has been revealed - and it's just around the corner. Brits could enjoy temperatures in the high 20s "at the very least" into early May as the fifth month of the year sees the country brace for stifling highs.

James Madden from Exacta Weather predicts that conditions will remain cool until April 20, after which there are signs of a gradual upward trend in temperatures into May. In a recent forecast, he said: "Following on from this will see high pressure and more settled weather finally beginning to take hold."

"However, it is still likely to be on the cool side to begin with, and before temperatures start to finally warm up significantly during the final third of April and into early May, as covered in all of our earlier and longer-range weather reports for in and 20th April onwards and preceding a cold period."

"It is within this period that we could see maximum temperatures ranging in the mid to high 20's, at the very least for the first time this year and over a sustained time period." Mr Madden also expects this heat blast to last "over a sustained time period" - therefore possibly constituting an official heatwave, reports BirminghamLive.

According to a post on the Exacta Weather Facebook page, Mr Madden stated: "Following on from this [cold spell this week] will see high pressure and more settled weather finally beginning to take hold. However, it is still likely to be on the cool side to begin with, and before temperatures start to finally warm up significantly during the final third of April and into early May."

He hinted that maximum temperatures could reach into the mid to high-20Cs for the first time this year and predicted: "It is within this period that we could see maximum temperatures ranging in the mid to high-20Cs, at the very least for the first time this year and over a sustained time period."

In another post, he teased: "Could there be another potentially historic heatwave or excessively hot temperatures for a sustained period this summer?"

Adding to this, he noted: "The Summer 24 report includes likely heatwave dates and temperatures for set periods of the upcoming June-July period."
