Scots are set to bask the heat this week, with one day set to be hotter than a popular Spanish island.

Following wet thunderstorms on Monday, things are warming up for Scotland, with temperatures slowly rising from Wednesday (May 8) onwards. Some far northern areas will see small amounts of rain, but these parts will still experience warm conditions.

Saturday (May 11) is when Scotland's mercury is set to hit highs of 23C, with Glasgow set to be the warmest - a hotter forecast than one in store for Ibiza the same day - with the Met Office reporting 22C temperatures for the holiday hot spot.

BBC meteorologist Stav Danos said an area of high pressure is to bring "settled conditions" across the country and "increasing amounts of sunshine" through to the weekend. This evening is going to feel "quite warm" with 20C expected in Edinburgh.

Into Thursday, a weather front will continue to bring further rain "and more of a breeze" over the far northwest throughout the day. The rest of the country "looks dry with plenty of sunshine" - again Edinburgh and surrounding areas set for 20C.

There is still the chance of the odd shower on Friday, but much of the country will see "good sunny spells". Regarding temperature, Mr Davos said "we're getting close to the mid-twenties" in the warmest sports "and up to 20 or 21C through the central belt."

But Saturday is when things will really start to sizzle and despite sprinkled showers again in store for the far north, Mr Davos predicts "up to 22 or 23C for the central belt, as warm as 20C there for Aberdeen".

Sunday is when conditions are predicted to change, thanks to an area of low pressure moving in from the west that Mr Davos said "could give rise to some showers across the north and west of the UK", some of which "could be heavy".
