New data has shown exactly which areas of Kent have seen the highest number of COVID cases over the last month. This information comes as the NHS is urging those who are vulnerable and at risk to get their spring booster vaccinations.

Anyone who is over 75, or older than six months with a weakened immune system, is entitled to the free top-up jab between April and June. Residents of care homes for older adults are also entitled to the spring vaccination.

Those with the highest risk will be called for the jab first, with the booster to be given around six months after the last dose. It can in some instances however be given as soon as three months after the previous booster.

A person turning 75 between April and June will not have to wait until their birthday until they are eligible for the jab. They will simply be able to attend when they are called for their vaccination.

The latest update from the UK Health Security Agency adds: “You will be given a booster dose of a vaccine made by Pfizer or Moderna and approved in the UK. These vaccines have been updated since the original vaccines and target a different COVID-19 variant.

“These updated vaccines boost protection well, and give slightly higher levels of antibody against the more recent strains of COVID-19 (Omicron). As we cannot predict which variants of COVID-19 will be circulating this spring and summer, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) have concluded that the vaccine used in the later weeks of the autumn 2023 programme should be used.”

Anyone who has not yet had either of their first two doses of the vaccine, or the third dose for those with a weakened immune system, are urged to book their jabs during the seasonal campaign. The UK Health Security Agency has also advised anyone who is eligible but has missed earlier boosters to get a dose this spring.
