Bird Absolutely Not Having Wall Decoration in Its Nest Box

A bird in Wales was so unimpressed with home decor in its nest box that it feverishly pecked at and pried off a tiny birdhouse attached to a wall of the shelter, hilarious footage posted on Wednesday, April 10, shows.

Footage posted to X by WildlifeKate shows a nuthatch pecking at a decoration in its nest box until the piece falls off the wall. The bird is seen pushing the decoration out through the nest box’s entrance hole.

“Some potential tenants of this furnished apartment have taken a dislike to some of the decorations,” read the post. “Instead of letting me know, they decided to remove it themselves!”

According to the British Trust for Ornithology, nuthatches are known to use nest boxes, and often plaster mud around the entrance hole until “it meets their exacting requirements.”

WildlifeKate told Storyful that she makes custom nest boxes for the birds on her property in Wales. She regularly livestreams footage of the birds in their nest boxes on her website. Credit: WildlifeKate / www.wildlifekate.co.uk via Storyful
