The Labour Party have retained control of Exeter City Council and kept hold of their majority in the city. The ruling party won eight of the 13 seats up for grabs, to put them on 24 seats and in control for a further two years.
Labour started the night on 23 seats – it was 24 before a resignation of a councillor in March – but won eight seats to keep control of the council. With no elections in 2025, it is two more years of power.
The Green Party gained Newtown and St Leonards from Labour, while the Liberal Democrats took Duryard and St James from them. But Labour took the Topsham seat from the Conservatives, as well as St Thomas from Independent Rob Hannaford.

Anti-LTN campaigner Independent Clive Hutchings nearly won the Mincinglake and Whipton seat, but lost by 67 votes to the Labour candidate. But in Heavitree, Independent Lucy Haigh, who also campaigned against the LTN, won the seat.
Leader of council, Cllr Phil Bialyk, retained his Exwick seat. The Conservatives held St Loye’s, which was their only victory of the night.
It means that Exeter City Council now consists of 24 Labour councillors, seven Green Party, four Liberal Democrats, three Conservatives, and one Independent councillor.
