A popular colourful clothing brand has announced its newest store will be in Exeter city centre. There's not long left to wait with the opening date set for just a few weeks' time.

Lucy & Yak, best known for its bold-patterned dungarees and jumpsuits, has just a handful of stores across the UK. Exeter will be its ninth location and the only store in Devon, with the next nearest branch for South West shoppers located in Bristol.

Earlier this month, the retailer wrote on their Facebook page: "Exeter marks the spot. The secret's out, shop number 9 is coming soon . Stay tuned for details & make sure you're following @lucyandyak_exeter on IG for all the updates"

The brand was officially launched in 2017 by Lucy Greenwood and Christopher Renwick after successfully selling vintage clothes on Depop. They initially sold online before opening their first store in Brighton in 2019.

All of the retailer's stores operate a 'Buyback' scheme where customers can bring back any Lucy & Yak item and receive a voucher to spend online or in store. The item will then either be resold or recycled. On their website, they also say that all of their stores are dog friendly and cashless.

Signs for Lucy & Yak have now gone up on a shop unit on the High Street. It had previously been occupied by In-Time Watch & Jewellery Repairs that had recently moved there from their previous location in the main Princesshay shopping centre.

The shop unit has undergone a number of different uses in recent years after the closure of Thomas Cook in September 2019 when the travel agent collapsed. Just two months later, it was reopened by Hays Travel which bought every one of Thomas Cook's 555 stores.

Hays Travel later closed the High Street store and in 2022, the empty unit was briefly used by Calendar Club and then was filled with an art installation in a bid to brighten it up.

The new Lucy & Yak store will open on Friday, June 28 and can be found at 7 High Street, EX4 3LF.
