An "exhilarating" new escape room adventure is coming to the Metrocentre just in time for the summer holidays, promising a world of magic, space, diamond heists and zombie apocalypses.

The Gateshead shopping centre will welcome the first North East offering from national escape room experts The Escapologist later this month, with organisers promising "a world of excitement, mystery and unparalleled escapism". There will be five rooms for visitors to find their way out of when the attraction opens on Saturday, June 15, each one with a different theme to explore.

Cunning escapees can take on the Fantastic Beasts-inspired Incredible Creatures & How To Feed Them challenge, taking on the role of a caretaker for magical creatures and racing against time to restore order before chaos ensues. Or Alice In Wonderland fans can join beloved characters from the classic to save the world in the Wonderland: Lost In Time room.

You can also take to the stars in Chaos In The Cosmos, which will see you embark on a space mission to rescue a distressed ship and prevent imminent disaster, or navigate a dystopian future where the dead have risen in The Infected, where it will be up to you to find humanity's last hope for survival. The fifth and final room is The Vault, where escapees will join a daring heist to steal a prized diamond.

The new Metrocentre venue will also boast a steampunk-themed cocktail bar where visitors can unwind after making their thrilling escape, and can sit in the 'dragon-sized' birdcages which seat up to eight people. The bar will have unique cocktails on offer that bubble, smoke and change colour to keep the feeling going of being lost in a fantasy world, as well as a selection of classic coffees and teas.

Pre-bookings are open now on The Escapologist website, with bookings for groups of two up to seven people available to buy from its opening date on June 15. Each game has a different age rating from eight to 15 plus to suit families, parties or a day out with friends, with prices starting at £52 for two people.
