Police officers hurt in blast at Budapest shop

Two police officers have been injured in an explosion at a shop in the centre of Budapest.

The area was cordoned off near the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music after police and emergency services arrived.

Pictures from Hungarian media showed a ruined doorway.

Witnesses said cars were damaged in the blast at around 10.30pm local time on Saturday.

A government spokesman declined to say whether it might have been a deliberate attack. Some reports blame it on a gas explosion.

A police statement said: "The local and expert examination of the origins of the explosion and the review of the damage is under way."
