Extraordinary snaps when movie icon Roger Moore mobbed near Watford

These extraordinary picture shows the moment a British movie icon was grabbed on the chin by an over-zealous fan – but he appeared neither shaken nor stirred by the incident as he lifts his arm to free himself from the man’s clutches.

These images were taken by a Watford Observer photographer in October 1965 when the man who would become James Bond eight years later when he first starred as 007 in Live and Let Die visited the Watford area.

The London-born actor was already firmly on the path to international stardom, starring as Simon Templar in hit TV series The Saint, when he came to South Oxhey to open a new TV shop.

These archive photos show how popular Moore, who died in 2017, was as police had their work cut out to protect him from the crowds, although some of his younger fans appeared more patient as they queued for autographs.
