A jilted lover dumped after his ex endured months of physical and verbal abuse bombarded her with chilling messages saying she was going to die. Dean Hurst told the victim she would be executed after she ended their relationship last December.

The 49-year-old, from Erdington, left her dozens of threatening voicemails and began stalking her - leaving her fearing for her life on a daily basis, police said. Hurst was arrested on January 27 and charged with stalking and two counts of assault.

He pleaded guilty and was jailed for to two years and three months on Friday, May 17. Hurst was also handed a ten-year restraining order to not contact the victim.

Police staff investigator Kathryn Burns, of West Midlands Police, said: “Hurst terrorised the woman and made her fear for her life on a daily basis. I want to thank her for being brave and reporting this behaviour.

"We take stalking and harassment extremely seriously. Nobody should have to put up with it. I hope she can take some closure from this sentence. If you are experiencing stalking or domestic abuse, please report it. We are here to help.”
